Research & Technology Transfer
CSEM has been supporting industry for several decades in the development and transfer of diagnostic technologies, from prototype to industrialization. The HE-Arc, EPFL, and UniNE provide training and conduct research in Digital Health, automation, and UX. The HLD ecosystem brings these stakeholders together around diagnostics and health process efficiency.
For clinical validation, the canton benefits from the immediate proximity of major Swiss university hospitals — CHUV (Lausanne), HUG (Geneva), and Inselspital (Bern) — all accessible in under 90 minutes, as well as the Neuchâtel Hospital Network (RHNe).

F.A.Q
The Canton of Neuchâtel counts over 210 medical technology companies and an ecosystem structured around the HLD (Human Lean Diagnostics) program, which unites manufacturers, laboratories, and academic partners (CSEM, EPFL, UniNE, HE-Arc). It is structured around four pillars: point-of-care devices, in vitro diagnostics, digital health, and automation.
Neuchâtel combines skills rarely found together: miniaturized sensors, microfluidics, ultra-low-power electronics, and industrial automation. This density of complementary players — from research institutes to major integrators — allows for moving from prototype to production within the same territory. The Usinnove building, in Serrières, will offer BSL-1 and BSL-2 laboratories starting in 2026.
Neuchâtel applies a corporate tax rate of 13.57%, one of the most competitive in Switzerland, within an attractive cost environment compared to the rest of Switzerland — corporate real estate, land, and operating expenses. The canton is at the heart of Europe: Lausanne, Bern, and Basel are accessible in less than 90 minutes, and the international airports of Geneva, Zurich, and Basel are within direct reach. This is complemented by dedicated industrial infrastructure and a readily available network of precision subcontractors.
